National Bank of Greece participates in CSR Conference of Al-Alam Al-Youm NewspaperThursday, 11 May 2017
In the framework of Al Alam El Youm Newspaper's first annual CSR conference, a large number of banks’ representatives, companies, NGOs leaders and more than 800 attendees from the economic and financial sectors, which took place on Wednesday, 10th of May, at Semiramis InterContinental Hotel.
During the conference, National Bank of Greece - NBG Egypt was awarded for its continuous activities, support and participation in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility. The Deputy Country Manager of NBG Egypt, Mr. Osama El Fangary has received this award from Mr. Gamal Anayat, Chairman of Al Alam Al Youm Newspaper and Mrs. Naglaa Zekri, the Newspaper’s Editor in Chief.
The first session of the conference discussed the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility, its impact on the sustainable development, its regulatory framework and the role of banks and the private sector in supporting the society to improve its economical conditions, at large.
While the second session discussed the role of civil society and NGOs in supporting the community and how to benefit from the CSR funds in achieving social developments, opening opportunities for training and employment and providing solutions for social imbalance areas.
The conference was held under the slogan "Together for a Better Future". The event was attended by a large number of banks’ heads, leaders and some of the Government Officials and was headed by Dr. Ghada Wali, Minister of Social Solidarity, which was the most prominent honored at the conference.

NBG Egypt was honored to be one of the main sponsors for the Greek Embassy event for the 196th anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821. The event was held on Sunday, 26th of March 2017, attended by numerous Greek and Egyptian officials and guests, whom welcomed the Greek Ambassador to Egypt Mr. “Michael Christos Diamesis” and his wife, Ambassador of Greece to the Republic of Tunisia, Mrs. “Teresa Angelatou”. This stunning celebration was certainly one of the most successful National Day celebrations organized, with about 2,500 people attended and expressed their admiration of this event.
Meanwhile, Mr. “Diamesis” referred to the brotherly relations between Greece - Egypt, beginning from the time of the Pharaohs and Alexander the Great, bringing even closer to today’s relationship. Greek Ambassador gave speech in both Greek and English to the guests about the huge effort of Greece to overcome the economic crisis, noting that measures were harder than any other European country.
The event had witnessed a huge number of important figures including the Minister of Supply and Internal Trade as a representative of the Government of Egypt Dr. “Aly Moselhy”, spokesman of the Presidency of the Republic of Egypt, Ambassador “Alaa Youssef”, the Special Adviser to the Egyptian President's for religious affairs Prof. “Osama Al-Azhary”, Also Mr. “George Sochos” the Country Manager of National Bank of Greece – Egypt, in addition to a group of Egyptians and members of the Greek community in Egypt.
The Music of the Greeks Ceremony at Cairo Opera HouseSunday, 22 May 2016
National Bank of Greece–Egypt (NBG) is always keen to strengthen the Greek - Egyptian relations and to support the cultural ties between the two countries. From this perspective، NBG-Egypt was the Gold Sponsor of "THE MUSIC OF THE GREEKS" concert, which was held on 23rd May, 2016 at Cairo Opera House, Gomhoureya Theater.
The ceremony was organized by the Greek Cultural Center in Cairo, celebrating its 13th anniversary and two years of the School of Byzantine Music in Cairo.
The concert was held under the auspices of the Greek Embassy in Cairo and the Greek Community of Cairo, in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Culture.
The “CANON” Orchestra of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens along with the famous singer “SOFIA MANOU” performed great pieces of Greek music and songs that amused and delighted the audience. They created a warm atmosphere that invited the audience to partake in the performed intimate music. The applause of the audience roused the students of the School of Byzantine Music in Cairo, who performed traditional dances in the accompaniment of the orchestra, giving a unique touch to the whole event.
The event was attended by the Alt. Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism of Greece Mrs. “ELENA KOUNTOURA”, the General Secretary of Tourism of Greece and Egypt, the Ambassadors of Greece Mr. “CHRISTODOULOS LAZARIS”, the Ambassadors of Cyprus Mr. “HARRY MORITSIS”, the Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo Metropolitan Memphis Mr. “NICODEMUS”, the President of the Greek Community of Cairo Mr. “CHRIS CROTCH”, and Mr. “GEORGE SOCHOS” the Country Manager of National Bank of Greece – Egypt and many Greek and Egyptian businessmen.
